In his presentation SeanKelly outlined the increase of alcohol consumption in Ireland against the backdrop of the decline of traditional community structures. He drew attention to some of the difficulties that existed in our communities in the past and how we as a nation are managing to address them. Some of the initiatives that have been undertaken by the GAA in relation to our current drug/alcohol problems were outlined, and the place that sport in general, and the structures of the GAA in particular have in turning the tide on our binge drinking culture was addressed.
